Necessity is the mother of adventure

It's Russ' early birthday blitz sail overnighter and best present of all, Josh is coming along with us.  A mad rush to put groceries on board and a split second decision not to bring the dinghy.  "We don't need the dinghy do we?"  I stared at the slate gray coolness of the day and weighed that against the need to get Chessie ashore . . . "OK."

There was a change of heart over leaving the dinghy about 2/3 of the way across the bay as we donned foul weather gear.  And so, necessity is the Mother of Adventure!  We never would've gone swimming in that "refreshing" water if not for the need to get Chessie ashore.  Josh wouldn't have gotten into a rousing game of fetch the stick with Chessie.  We wouldn't have compared the size of each other's goose bumps or debated what felt warmer, air or water.  So maybe it was a good thing that we left the dinghy behind.

We were thrilled when Josh said during dinner that he'd like to go sailing this summer.  He's gone through a like (when he was really little) to a not too happy to go sailing state so it was an exciting pronouncement and one we were happy to fulfill.  Thus the seeds of our summer blitz 2000 were planted.
